Elizabeth Ann Curley

Elizabeth L. Curley fondly known as Lib, died unexpectedly on Tuesday Feb. 1, 2011. Born in Danbury, CT on Aug. 20, 1923 she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Lynch Kelly. She graduated from Danbury High School in 1941 and Danbury State Teachers College now Western Ct State University. She taught school in Weston and Greenwich before marrying the love of her life; James P. Curley now deceased. She was happily married for forty-eight years. She made her home in many states as the wife of a G. E. executive, before finally settling down in West Hartford. She loved to travel and saw much of the world. One of her favorite places was Italy, where she and her husband lived in Florence for a time. A passionate bridge player since college and member of numerous clubs, she loved the game. With her husband Jim, she was a season ticket holder of the Hartford Whalers hockey team and she was a devoted follower of UConn women's basketball. She put great joy in her four grandchildren, always delighting in their accomplishments. She especially loved attending their musical performances. We will miss her quiet reserve, her twinkling dark brown eyes, her style and grace, and her unwavering sense of right and wrong. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Clytia Curley of Oakland, CA; her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Curley and Salvatore Bruzzese of West Hartford; son James Curley, Jr. of West Hartford; and grandchildren, Nora Curley, Daniel, Molly and Henry Bruzzese. She was pre-deceased by her sister Margaret Knudsen. The family would also like to acknowledge the wonderful care she received from Marie and Lucille. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 7, at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter Claver, 47 Pleasant St., West Hartford. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury at 2 p.m. Calling hours are Sunday, Feb. 6 from 2 – 5pm at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
