Eleanor Wasley

Eleanor Petke Wasley, found peace as she was called home and passed away comfortably in the company of her loving family. Eleanor was blessed to marry her first love Dr. David L. Wasley, and would say “if we could be married for just one day it would all be worth it”. Eleanor shared just under 4 yrs. with David and found joy, love and laughter, as together they became one. Eleanor was born on October 5, 1924 in her hometown, Terryville, CT to her parents David and Amelia Appel Petke. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her eleven siblings Albert, William, Walter, Robert, Emil, Daniel, Edward, Olga and Natalie Petke, Elizabeth Vail Mansfield and Mary Summers. She was the youngest of twelve. She will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, and great grand nephews, and great grand nieces. Eleanor held a special place in her heart and leaves behind a longtime family friend Thomas Ferrick of Glastonbury CT. In addition to her husband , family and friends Eleanor will be sadly missed by her stepdaughter, caregiver and friend Jayne Koistinen, of Noank, by the shore where she lived and enjoyed her most recent years with her new found family. Eleanor also leaves two stepsons and their wives David and Cheryl Wasley, and Mathew and Adrienne Wasley and three step grandchildren; Eleanor enjoyed sending cards and writing letters to her family and friends, she never missed a holiday, birthday, or special occasion. She was thoughtful, compassionate, and enjoyed celebrating special occasions with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing piano, endless games of solitaire, playing scrabble, but never keeping score, and of course watching old movies with David in their matching recliner chairs. Eleanor completed education in the local Terryville school system to become a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) and dedicate many years of service in the Emergency Room at Bristol Hospital, and eventually move on to settle in a home in West Hartford completing her career at Hartford Hospital while giving undying care to her three sisters, Mary, Olga, and Elizabeth and her husband Warren Mansfield. Eleanor served many years in the Christian fellowship at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Eleanor’s family has special gratitude and thanks to the Doctors, Nurses and staff at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital, the Nurses and Aides of Southeastern VNA, Hospice of Southeastern CT, Dr. Edmund West, and her in home caregivers Carmen Christi and Bruno Ferriera for their ongoing compassion and unparalleled care. In lieu of flowers Eleanor’s family asks that you make donations in her memory to The Bethany Lutheran Church, 1655 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT 06107. Funeral services will be Sunday, Feb. 7, beginning with visitation from 12-1 pm, at Bethany Lutheran Church, a service will follow at 1 pm at the Church. Burial will be in the spring in Hillside Cemetery, Terryville. Molloy Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements.
