Edward Roux

Edward Roux, beloved husband of Alvina Roux, passed away January 21, 2016 in his home in Farmington, CT at which he resided since 2001. Born November 1, 1926 in a small town in northern Illinois, Ed grew up enjoying hunting and athletics excelling in basketball and baseball. Ed was a United States Army veteran of World War II. After the war, he graduated from The University of Illinois with a degree in Agriculture. His knowledge and passion of finance and agriculture secured him a 40 year professional career that concluded with his retirement in 1995 from CIGNA Corporation in Bloomfield as an executive in their investment division. After retirement, he returned to his true passion, farming. For 5 years, Ed, cared for 1100 acres of farmland in southern Illinois. While most retirees head for the golf course, Ed wanted to get back to work and do what he called "getting the place all slicked up" which really means returning earth to its natural beauty. After selling the farm in 2000 he returned to Connecticut with his wife to be with their children and grandchildren. He continued his love of working outdoors by taking care of his lawn, the children's, and many of the neighbors. Even the snow would not keep him inactive as he cleared driveways, roads for family and friends. Education, career, farming are not what defined Ed. What defined him was how he went about life. As a faithful follower of Christ, he displayed a loving care to every single person that came across his path and all knew him as a gentle giant. Always a smile, always a kind word, always wanting to help someone, even in the toughest times. Those who really knew him…witnessed what a truly selfless person can be. Generous beyond words. He is pre-deceased by his son, Mark Edward Roux, and sister Shirley Mellas. He is survived by his sister Janice, as well as his three children, Stanley Roux and his wife Kathy of Chesterfield, MO, Dianne Roux Hoelzer and her husband Mark of Simsbury, and Steve Roux and his wife Carri of Farmington, eight grandchildren Justin, Nicholas, Katie, Daniel, Nathan, Kristen, Edison, and Luke. Calling hours are at The Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave, West Hartford on Friday (January 29th) from 4 pm -6 pm. Memorial service will be Saturday (January 30th) at 11am at Ed's Church, Bethany Lutheran Church, 1655 Boulevard West Hartford. Memorial contributions can be made to Bethany Lutheran Church, 1655 Boulevard, West Hartford, CT 06107. The church will designate the memorial fund to help with Alzheimer's research, Friendship Circle of Avon that provides exceptional care for the elderly including Alzheimer's patients, and a Hand-Up of West Hartford.
