Edward D. Brewer

Edward Daniel Brewer, 92 passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024 surrounded by the love of his family. Edward (Ned) Brewer was born on September 15, 1931 to parents William Brewer and Genevive (Daly) Brewer in Hartford, CT. He spent most of his childhood growing up in Hartford then eventually moving to West Hartford. He attended High School at Cardinal Farley Military Academy in Rhinecliff, NY where he graduated as the highest ranking major cadet. After High School, he went on and graduated as a very proud alumni of the University of Notre Dame. Upon graduation he began a long career as a Mechanical Engineer for Hamilton Standard. In 1960 Ned married his lifelong sweetheart Carol (Sanford) Brewer of 64 years and the two went on to raise six children together. Ned is predeceased by his loving daughter Patricia Hall, and leaves behind his sons Stephen (Joanne) Brewer of Marlton, NJ, Edward (Sharon) Brewer Jr. of Proper, TX, Thomas (Paige) Brewer of Ridgefield, CT and daughters Maribeth Brewer of West Hartford, CT and Alison (Mark) Jamin of West Hartford, CT. Ned “Grampy” will be greatly missed by his 18 grandchildren that were his pride and joy. Suzie, Eren, Elizabeth, Steven, Michael, Nicole, Jamie, Andrew, Katie, Haley, Reilly, Kellen, Quinn, Timmy, Joey, Casey, Tommy and Maggie as well as his four great grandchildren Madden, Gianna, Luca and Grayson. As well as many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Outside of Ned’s long successful career as a Mechanical Engineer, he pursued other endeavors that were more aligned with his passion and personality. His loves included football, his irish heritage, family and friends. In 1964, Ned along with his brothers were successful in gaining a franchise in the Atlantic Coast Football League for the city of Hartford, This endeavor provided professional sports entertainment for the city of Hartford. In 1967, when the ACFL began to disassemble, they brought the Hartford Charter Oaks into the newly formed Continental Football League, greatly expanding the scope and talent of competition to the national level. In 1973 Ned and his brother Don went on to open up the Brewer House Restaurant and Irish Bar an establishment that became a home away from home for many friends and family in the community and a major destination especially on St. Patrick's Day. Ned dedicated 25 plus years to the West Hartford Youth football league as a coach and a coordinator. When he wasn’t coaching on the field he was coaching and critiquing from the couch every Saturday during College Football season passionately routing for his beloved Fighting Irish. In addition to his daughter Patty, Ned will be received by his loving parents and siblings William Brewer, Sr. Patricia Brewer, Donald Brewer, Raymond Brewer, Marilyn Brewer and John Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, July 19, 2024 at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church, 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. Followed by a burial at Mount Saint Benedict, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield, CT. Visitation will take place before the mass 9:30 am to 10:30 am at Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford.
