Dorothy C. Burns

BURNS, Dorothy Dorothy Catherine Diachenko Burns, of West Hartford, died Sunday May 28, 2006 at her home in the company of her loving family. A native of Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Dora Diachenko. A 1946 graduate of Hartford Public High School, she was the wife of the late William J. Burns for 43 years until his death in 1992. A resident of West Hartford for more than 40 years, Dorothy worked many years for the West Hartford Public School?s Department of Continuing Education. She was a communicant of St Thomas the Apostle Church and a long-time member of the STA Women?s Club. She was a member of the Mountain Valley Garden Club for many years. Dot and Bill raised and loved deeply their 7 children and 14 grandchildren who survive her: children CDR Kathryn B Bryant, USN Ret and husband LCDR Robert A Bryant, USN Ret of Hillsboro, WI; Gregory R. and wife Norine Cassell of West Hartford; Pamela B. and husband MCPO Louis C. McIntosh, USN Ret of Imperial Beach, CA; Alicia B. Bright of Geneva, OH; William J. III of Gulf Breeze, FL; Charles E. and wife Kathleen Doran of South Windsor; Mary B. Tracy of West Hartford; grandchildren Morrigan K Burns and husband Timothy Steigelman of Westbrook, ME; Bridget M. Burns of Burlington, VT; Liam J. Burns of West Hartford; Louis C III, Patrick W, and Sarah B. McIntosh of Imperial Beach, CA;; Clinton S Bright and Shawn C Meehan of Geneva, OH; William J. IV and Maxwell H. Burns of Canton; Katherine F. and Victoria L Burns of South Windsor; Hillary C and Lilah R Tracy of West Hartford,. Dorothy leaves behind a brother, Louis Diachenko of Wethersfield and a sister Elizabeth Walsh of Old Saybrook, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be Thursday June 1st at 9:15 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, West Hartford. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday May 31st from 4 to 8 p.m. The family wishes to thank the many compassionate health care professionals who treated Dorothy with great dignity and respect during the past 5 months of her illness.
