Clare Long

For those who never met Clare Long we offer our condolences. She was loving, giving, creative, talented and a joy to everyone she met – young and old. Even up to the last days of her 98 years she was making the nurses laugh and smile. Clare was born May 25, 1926 to Margaret and Frank Carrigan in Brighton, MA. She was the sister of Mary (Schoenfeld), Father Philip Carrigan, SMA, and Anne (Hilton) and we think just because of her sunny outlook on life she outlived them all. She married Steve Long (exactly one year her junior) and in their 58 years together had five kids: Steve Long (Akiko Hiratsuka) of West Hartford; Phil (Denise) Long, Cuyahoga Falls, OH; Clare (Rod) Wilson, Ctr. Conway, NH; Jack Long and Nancy (Peter) Propfe of New Hartford, CT and “adopted” son Philip Guglielmo of West Hartford and seven grandchildren: Nick (Dawn) Long and Katie (partner Patrick) Long, Tyler (Shannon) Propfe and Emma Propfe, Ian Long, and Ross (Lauren) Wilson and Ryan (partner Katie) Wilson, and always welcomed in her many nieces and nephews and kids friends. Steve predeceased her in 2012. Other than her family and playing the piano at a drop of a hat, Clare’s passion and joy was working at and decorating the windows of the Second Look Thrift Shop in West Hartford. One of her mottos in life was “everyone has a story to tell” and many came into that shop to tell her theirs. The family would like to thank everyone at McLean’s and Farmington Station Senior Living for their wonderful care and especially Elly Nicholson for her loving constant care and companionship. Friends may visit with the family at Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford from 4-7 pm Thursday, December 12, 2024. A catholic mass of burial will be Friday, December 13, 2024 at 10 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.
