Catherine M. Sullivan

Catherine Kay M. Sullivan, 94, daughter of Timothy E. and Catherine Fenton Sullivan, passed away on October 4, 2011, at St. Mary Home in West Hartford. Born on March 30, 1917, in Hartford, Catherine lived in the Hartford area her entire life, moving to West Hartford in 1978. She graduated from the Arsenal School, Hartford Public High School Class of 1935B, and St. Joseph College. She was employed at the Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company for over 40 years, retiring in 1979. Several years ago she moved to Frances Warde Towers and enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and to make new ones. Catherine loved to travel and enjoyed many trips to Ireland, Europe, and the Holy Land. She also enjoyed many local trips when her cousin Pat Maierle from Terra Haute would come on one of her frequent visits. A communicant of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and St. Thomas the Apostle, she was a member of the Women's Club and the Altar Guild. She was predeceased by her brothers John D. Sullivan and Joseph W. Sullivan and a nephew Peter J. Sullivan. Survivors include her four nephews Steven Sullivan, William Sullivan, Robert Sullivan, Sean Sullivan, her niece Margaret Carmody, and her sister-in-law Ruth Sullivan. She is also survived by a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. Anyone who met Catherine was touched by her loving spirit, caring demeanor, and sweet smile. She will be missed by all who knew her, especially her dear life-long friends Teddy and Monica. The family would like to extend its thanks to Masonicare and the staff at St. Mary Home for their care for Catherine during her final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the chapel at St. Mary Home, 2021 Albany Ave. 3rd Floor, West Hartford, on Friday, October 7 at 10:00 a.m., with a calling hour one hour before the service, across from the chapel at St. Mary Home. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. Catherine has requested that donations to the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Hartford be sent in lieu of flowers.
