Carol P. Phaneuf

PHANEUF, Carol Peters Carol Phaneuf, 73, of West Hartford, wife of Deacon Eugene E. Phaneuf died Wed., June 15, 2011, from complications arising from heart surgery. The daughter of Carl and Eleanor Peters, she was born on Sept. 9, 1937, in Springfield, MA. She grew up in Willimantic, CT; attending St. Joseph Elementary School and Windham High School 1955. She earned her teaching degree from Willimantic State Teacher's College in 1959. After graduating she taught in Sprague and Norwich CT. It was at Willimantic State Teacher's College that she met Gene Phaneuf. They married July 23, 1960. Together they raised 7 children, moving to West Hartford, CT in 1970. She was a communicant of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford for over 40 years serving as; Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council Member, CCD teacher, and elementary school substitute. She was a member of the STA Women's Club, and found many friends through the Mother's Circle. Over the years, Gene and Carol were very involved in Marriage Encounter and the Marriage Preparation Classes for the engaged . She spent many happy summers at Camp Hazen YMCA in Chester , CT. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Eugene E. Phaneuf of West Hartford, CT, her brother, Carl A. Peters and wife Amy of New Britain, CT, her children: Michelle Phaneuf of West Hartford, CT, Denise Learned and husband Michael of Chester, CT, Jeanne Jones of West Hartford, CT, Diane Connell and husband Thomas of Chester, CT, Paula Clement and husband Stephen of Seattle, WA, Michael Phaneuf and wife Gabriella Fatone of Tacoma Park, MD, and Christopher Phaneuf of Baltimore, MD. She is pre-deceased by her sister Patricia Peters, her sister Nancy Kennedy and husband Jack, Carla Jean, her infant daughter, and her son-in-law Michael Jones. She will be deeply missed by her 9 grandchildren: Elizabeth, Alexander, and Carolyn Learned, Catherine, Sarah, and Kelly Jones, Allison Connell, Pandora Clement, and Ethan Phaneuf. Funeral services will be Monday June 20, 2011 at 9:15 a.m. from Molloy Funeral, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford, with the celebration of her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle, 872 Farmington Ave., West Hartford.
