Bridie Cronin

Bridget “Bridie” McGillicuddy Cronin was born August 17, 1927, in Killorglin, Co. Kerry, Ireland. The oldest of three children, she emigrated to America in 1947. Bridie is predeceased by her parents, Eugene McGillicuddy and Ellen Gallivan McGillicuddy, her husband of 77 years, Timothy, son Eugene Cronin and brother Patrick McGillicuddy. She is survived by her children, Danny Cronin, his wife Patricia Leonard and sons Dylan and Cahill Cronin, her daughters Eileen Cronin , Maureen Cronin and spouse Tom Disher , son Timothy Cronin, Jr., her sister Sheila McMahon, her daughter-in-law, Eugene’s wife, Yaraslava (Jerry) and numerous nieces and nephews here and in Ireland, particularly the Clifford family; Michael (Anne), Sheelagh (Crowley), Mary (McSorley) and Patricia (Sullivan), who helped keep her connection to Ireland alive. Bridie and Tim made Bloomfield CT. their home for more than 70 yrs and built three homes in the community. Throughout her career she was employed by the Town of Bloomfield and the University of Hartford where she worked for more than 37yrs in the Office of the Bursar. Bridie had a lifelong passion for gardening, baking, knitting, and decorating. She also believed that as an immigrant to this country she needed to work hard and make contributions to the society at large. She never missed voting in an election throughout most of her life. Bridie also had a passion for her native Ireland. Her five children were all Irish step dancers. Bridie and Tim were fortunate to have made more than ten return visits to their native Ireland. Bridie had a keen ear for politics and the world at large. Right up to her final days she was still keenly aware of geo-politics and could hold her own in any discussion or debate! Bridie’s zest for life, her unwavering care and love for her children, her amazing cakes, her keen political insights, her concern for others and her amazing flower gardens will all be sorely missed. She will remain forever loved by her children who were always at her side during the past months. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 8th beginning at 10:00 a.m in the Church of St. Timothy, 1116 N. Main St, West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield.
