Bridget Prout

Bridget "Bridie" Burke Prout, wife of the late John "Jack" Prout, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008 at John Dempsey Hospital. Born in Claregalway, County Galway, Ireland to the late Thomas and Catherine Comer Burke, Bridget immigrated to the United States in 1930 at the age of 18. After her retirement from SNET, she and her husband enjoyed many trips with the Parkville and West Hartford Senior Centers. She also was a life time member of the Sacred Heart Pioneer Association and a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist church for many years. Bridie is survived by her devoted children, Mary and Larry Spellacy of Wethersfield, Kathleen, Sheila, and Rita Prout of West Hartford, Thomas and Linda Prout of Tariffville, Stephen Prout of Bolton, Kevin and Barbara Prout of Manchester. Also surviving are her loving grandchildren Ginger and Michael Frasca of Mansfield, Camille and Rui Ferreira of West Hartford, Kevin Zoeller of Simsbury, Lauren Prout and her fiancé Scott Hurd of Middletown, Stacey and Patrick Carrier of Unionville, Graham Mariano of East Hartford, Brendan Prout, a student at Boston College and Siobhan Prout, a student at Greater Hartford Classical Magnet School, and six great grandchildren. Bridget also leaves a dear sister, May Grogan of Castlegar, Galway, Ireland and two sisters-in-law, Mary Burke of Newington and Mamie Burke of Claregalway, Ireland. Besides her husband of 55 years, she was predeceased by brothers Patrick and Michael Burke of Galway, Edmond "Eddie" Burke of Newington and her beloved twin sister Ellie Shaughnessy of Oranmore, Galway, Ireland. She also leaves many dear nieces and nephews in this country and Ireland. Bridget's family would like to thank the staff at Avery Heights, Station I, for their kindness. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Mark the Evangelist, 467 South Quaker Lane, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mount St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hours are Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
