Ann K. Lenihan

Ann (Nan) K. Lenihan Ann Klarman Lenihan, 90, of West Hartford, died on January 19, 2015 at St. Mary Home surrounded by her family. Nan was born on April 24, 1924 in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania to Harry J. and Frances N. Klarman. Joseph F. Lenihan, her loving husband of 47 years, predeceased her. She is survived by her children: Mary Lenihan of Boston, MA; David and Midge Lenihan of Marlborough; Sue and Paul Faulkner of Granby; Betsy and David Smith of West Hartford; John and Michelle Lenihan of Avon and her daughter-in-law Ingrid and Chris Pedlow of Greenwich. Her son, Joseph A. Lenihan, formerly of Greenwich, predeceased her. She also leaves her fifteen very special grandchildren: Maya Lenihan; Patrick, Christopher and Bridget Lenihan; Ryan Faulkner; Amber, Sarah, Zachary and Tatiana Smith; Kate and Anna Lenihan; Megan, Ele’, Joseph Lenihan and Christopher Pedlow and two wonderful great grandchildren, Liam and Charlotte Lenihan. She leaves her brother Harry J. Klarman of Hamden and her sister-in-law Inez Lenihan of Stuart FL and many nieces and nephews. Her sister, Mary Murray, predeceased her. Nan and her family moved to New Haven when she was fourteen where she attended high school and graduated from Southern CT State Teachers’ College. She taught children with special needs until her marriage in 1950. In 1957, Nan and the family moved to West Hartford, where she became a lifelong resident. After raising six children, Nan continued her love of children, working as a teacher at the School for Young Children in West Hartford for over ten years. Nan was one of the most loving, caring, and honest people you could ever meet. Her wonderful smile, warmth, compassion and incredible faith were legendary and appreciated by all. She will be sorely missed. Friends are invited to join the family for a Memorial Mass celebrating her life on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center, 303 Tunxis Rd., West Hartford, CT 06107. Calling hours will be Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 3-6 pm at Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to School for Young Children, 238 Steele Rd. West Hartford, CT 06117 or the Holy Family Passionist Retreat Center.
