Louis RisCassi

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Louis RisCassi, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, who departed this life on October 23, 2024. Born on August 28, 1929 in Hartford, Connecticut, Louis lived a remarkable life defined by his commitment to family, law, and a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Louis’s began his academic journey at Bulkeley High School in Hartford followed by Cheshire Academy, which he attributes to a turning point in his education. He briefly attended Villanova University before answering the call of duty, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1950. After proudly serving his country, he returned to his studies, earning a degree in History and Economics from Mount Saint Mary’s College (Emmitsburg, MD) in 1957. Louis's pursuit of excellence continued as he was accepted into Georgetown University's School of Law, graduating in January of 1960 (accelerated program) and embarking on a distinguished legal career. For over 50 years, Louis practiced law in the greater Hartford area, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and clients alike. He started his law career as a one-man counselor of law, however he was subsequently a partner with Dunn, Lynch and RisCassi as well as Lynch, RisCassi and Stabnick before he practiced on his own again. He continued to practice law until well into his 80’s. His dedication to justice and integrity left an indelible mark on the community he loved, particularly in West Hartford, where he made his home with his wife, Liz, with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage. Beyond the courtroom, Louis was a passionate golfer, a lifetime member of the Golf Club of Avon, spending countless hours on the greens, where the passion for the game brought him joy and camaraderie. He cherished his time outdoors, whether it was pursuing his love for hunting or casting a line as a fly fisherman. When his ability to play golf was no more, he continued his time at the golf club playing cards with the same friends with whom he had been playing for decades. In his later years, he was able to continue with his passion for food, cooking and reading. Louis was predeceased by his mother, Catherine (Morello) RisCassi and father, William J. RisCassi, however he leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Survived by his devoted wife, Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Lange RisCassi; his seven children, Tom RisCassi (Hartford CT), Janet RisCassi (West Hartford, CT), Catherine (and husband Bill) Duning (Williamsburg, VA), David RisCassi(West Hartford CT), Andrew RisCassi (Manchester CT), Beth (and husband Barry) Huseby (Nevada City, CA), and Ami Riscassi(Manchester, NH). He was a proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Caroline Woods, Jack Woods, Cole Duning, Cooper Duning, Lucy Huseby, Kate Huseby, and Henry Huseby, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his brother, Gen. Robert Riscassi (Ret.) and his wife, Virginia (Arlington, VA), as well as seven nieces and nephews. Louis’s life was a testament to the values of family, friendship, and service. He touched the hearts of all who knew him, leaving a legacy of kindness and integrity. As we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived, rich with love and laughter, and the indelible impact he made on all our lives. Calling hours will be Monday, October 28th from 4-7 p.m. at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Ave., West Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 29th at 10:00 a.m at St. Thomas the Apostle Church 872 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford.
