Kathleen Agnes Brady Liss

Kathleen Agnes Brady Liss, 78, died on Wednesday, March 23, 2016 surrounded by her five children and a dear friend at Hartford Hospital. Kathleen was born on April 7, 1937, in Washington Heights, NY. She was the beloved daughter of Patrick and Julia (McBrien) Brady and sister of Marie Gilhooly and Judy Collins. Kathleen attended Mother Cabrini High School and received her nursing degree from Misericordia School of Nursing. She made her home in West Hartford where she lovingly devoted her life to raising her five children. Her unwavering faith, beautiful soul and innate kindness enabled her to touch the lives of so many as a nurse at St. Francis Hospital, Aetna and The East Hartford VNA. A born caregiver, Kathleen brought joy and light to every person she met with a smile, a hug, a helping hand, a shoulder to cry on or the words "God be good to you" or "Bless your heart." She made the world a more beautiful place with everyday simple acts of kindness and she lived her life with pure selflessness and grace. With a gift for making others feel special and loved, Kathleen knew no strangers. She always had a story to share about growing up in New York City, summers at Rockaway Beach, and life's greatest moments made possible by her wonderful parents who came here from Ireland. Her greatest joy was her children and her grandchildren who knew every day that she held them lovingly in her heart. Her favorite quote was “The most beautiful music in the world is the sound of children’s laughter”. She is survived by her children; Joseph and his wife Carolyn of Suffield, CT, Eileen of South Boston, MA, Rori Sughrue and her husband Bill of Newtown, CT, Suzanne of San Francisco, CA and Brian and his wife Chris of Granby, CT; her sister, Judy Collins and her husband John, her brother in law Thomas Gilhooly; 9 grandchildren, Julia, Brian, Declan, Kiera, Owen, Elena, Patrick, Brady and Molly; nieces and nephews Patricia, Eileen, Mary Kay, Patricia, John, Michael and their beautiful families; and her dear friend and caregiver Lola Kobilova whose love and care we will always treasure. Kathleen was predeceased by her sister Marie Gilhooly and her nephew and Godson Kevin Gilhooly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 29 at 10:00 am at The Church of St. Timothy, 1116 North Main St., West Hartford. Burial will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery. Her family will receive friends on Monday, March 28 from 5-8 pm at The Church of St. Timothy.
