Kathleen Basanese

Kathleen Basanese July 1, 1949 - April 23, 2022 Former resident of San Jose, CA Kathleen was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1949, the eldest daughter of Michael Gula and Ann Batyko. She graduated near top of her class from Brentwood High School. In 1971, she received her International Studies degree from Georgetown University in Washington DC, where she had met her future hus band, Edward during their Junior Year Abroad in Fribourg Switzerland. They married in 1973 at St Pius X Byzantine Catholic church in Pittsburgh, and settled in San Jose, CA, where they raised their two children, Eddie and Diana. In 2008, Kathy and her husband followed their chil dren, and moved from San Jose to West Hartford, CT. Kathy’s early career began at Chemical Bank in New York City and Zurich Switzerland. In San Jose, she eventually became employed in high tech IT management positions, working at Berryessa Union School District, Implant Center, Comac, Iron Mountain, and most recently, Amware. Kathy’s true joy has always been her family. She is survived by her husband Edward. Her son Eddie Basanese and his wife Jenn of Centennial CO. Her daughter Diana Evjen and her husband Roy of Southington CT. Her brother Mike Gula and his wife Mary Ann Larkin of Silver Spring MD. Her seven grandchildren: Erik, Michael, Allegra, Emet, Kate, Bea and Edward. Her beloved brothers and sisters on her husband’s side, John and Maryellen Basanese, Chris and Norma Basanese, Bob and Allison Basanese, Sharon Sullivan, Ric and Laura Basanese. Her many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her sister, Donna Gula. Kathy has always been an avid sewer, craftsperson, hiker, and gardener. And a creative chef. She pub lished her homeowner association newsletter. She and her husband loved to travel and they toured many countries in Europe, most recently a road trip together through Ireland. There will be a memorial service to celebrate Kathleen’s life at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 5111 San Felipe Rd, San Jose, CA on Thursday, May 19 at 1:00pm.
