Emma Perez

Emma Perez, 82, of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 2, 2023. She was born in Ocros, Peru, daughter of the late Clemente and Antonia (Romero) Rocca. She immigrated to the United States in 1960. Emma was a loving and devoted wife to Louis Perez. They were married for 60 wonderful years and lived happily in West Hartford. She was a loving and devoted mother of two daughters. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Doris Maritza Vieira and her husband Francisco, Lucy Alzugaray and her husband Hector, all of Rocky Hill; proud loving grandmother to her two grandchildren, Alyssa and Nicholas Alzugaray; her sisters, Graciela (Jose) Fret, Victoria (Jose) Vidal and Julia Serrano and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and five brothers. Emma enjoyed her career as cosmetologist at Sage-Allen. She transitioned her career working at Aetna Life Insurance and La Imprenta Hispana and became an entrepreneur who started her own business, Universal Gift Shop. Emma loved her family, friends and was proud of her Peruvian heritage and loved to dance to her favorite music huayno, marinera and cumbia. She was a founder of the Hermandad del Senor de los Milagros of Hartford, CT, the Hermandad de la Virgen del Rosario de Ocros of Hartford, CT, and Club Peru of Hartford, CT and stayed involved in many church activities, and civic and community organizations. Emma enjoyed traveling the world especially traveling to Spain to visit her sister Julia, knitting, sewing, hand- made creations, hosting, and organizing special celebrations, and celebrating her New Year’s Day birthday, reading, singing in the church choir, and watching her novellas and soccer games. She was loved dearly and will always be remembered for her kindness and will be forever in our hearts. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 am at The Cathedral of St. Joseph 140 Farmington Ave. Hartford. Committal will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd. Bloomfield. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 5-8 pm at the Molloy Funeral Home 906 Farmington Ave. West Hartford. Donations in her memory may be made to the American Heart Association.
