Edwin M. Dahill Jr

Edwin McNeil Dahill Jr., 101, of West Hartford, CT passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, December 7th. Ed is now reunited with his wife of 64 years, Patricia McCallum Dahill. Born September 5th 1919 as the eldest son of Edwin and Mary Dahill, Ed grew up in the North End of Hartford and loved to visit his old neighborhood. He was a proud alumnus of Weaver High School. Ed graduated from Georgetown University in 1941 and entered Yale Law School the following fall. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he entered the Army and served outside London during World War II. Returning to Connecticut after the war, Ed worked for G. Fox and Company, was principal of Canton High School, and received his Doctor of Education degree from Columbia University in 1971. He spent his career as a professor at Central Connecticut State College. Ed and Pat were avid sports people, playing tennis in the summer, paddle tennis in the winter, and making frequent trips to Stratton Mountain for Vermont skiing. Later in his life, Ed fell in love with windsurfing, frequently following the wind to New London where he had spent summers as a child. Ed cherished his regular lunches with his tennis group at the Hartford Golf Club. Ed will be remembered for his enthusiasm and insatiable curiosity. Whether it was world events or his grandkids’ summer jobs, he always asked questions and wanted to learn more. Ed is survived by his four children and their spouses, Sara Dahill O’Connell and her husband John, Edwin M. Dahill III and his wife Kathleen, Kenneth L. M. Dahill and his wife Joanne, and John J. T. Dahill and his wife Pamela. Ed also leaves six grandchildren: Courtney and Isabel O’Connell, Margaret and Edwin M. Dahill IV, and Luke and Jack Dahill. Additionally, Ed leaves many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews. In addition to his wife Pat, Ed was predeceased by his brother, Robert C. Dahill and Robert’s wife Janet F. Dahill. Ed was a dynamic and engaging grandfather, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, and will be greatly missed.
